about
'The Parting Glass' is the only song on size2shoes' début album from the Irish tradition, sometimes Scottish depending on where your loyalties lie.... joke! It's a "wake" song. When the Irish and Scottish were leaving for America, their friends and families would hold a wake for them, only as opposed to funeral planning, it was all about the bright future.

They would drink and be merry, but they'd still have the fact at the back of their minds that they might never speak to their comrades again. A lovely wee song!
lyrics
Of the money ‘ere I spent I spent it in good company,
Of all the harm I’ve ever done alas it was to none but me,
And all ive done for want of wit to my memory now I cant recall,
So fill to me the parting glass goodnight and joy be to you all,

If I had money enough to spend and leisure time to sit a while,
There is a fair maid in Limerick town who truly has my heart beguiled,
With he rosy cheeks and ruby lips I won’t she has my heart enthralled,
So fill to me the parting glass, goodnight and joy be to you all,

Of all the comrades ‘ere I had their sorry for my going away,
And all the sweethearts ere I loved they’d wish me one more day to stay,
But since it falls into my lot that I should rise and you should not,
I softly rise and gently call goodnight and joy be too
